Out of The Hat is a psychological fairytale that takes you on a journey into the twisted mind of a villain with the only help of your wits and your magic hat.
You play as Agatha, a little girl who finds herself lost in a mysterious forest after running away from a Circus where she was imprisoned by the villainous magician Quintus. As you try to find your way out, you will discover that the world you’re trapped in is actually inside Quintus’ magic hat, where he has hidden all of the traumas and fears of a long and unhappy life.
As you move deeper into this bizarre world, every challenge you overcome will help Quintus face his hidden memories in a journey of healing. Every time you see a memory being replayed, Quintus is forced to experience it again, so he will try and stop you with increasing vehemence.

This has been the most beautiful game I've played this year and I don't say that lightly. The art was beautiful, the mechanics very clever, and it was a joy to discover. The difficulty was a bit high for me but I admit that this is on me rather than the game due to my unfamiliarity with the controller. I really really hope work continues on this game and I'm excited to see their progress. WELL WORTH THE PLAY

Best game on itch.io I played so far. The art style is absolutely awesome, the teleport mechanic feels really satisfying and makes a lot of fun AND the game manages to be challenging but not too challenging. I can recommend this game to pretty much everyone. 11/10 score. Hope you guys get the chance to make a full game out of this :)

Fun! But I had a lot of issues with the jump not working on the lowest setting. We bumped it up the the next highest graphics and it worked fine. No clue why it was so messed up but I hope y’all can fix it :)
Thank you for the video Tesseption! you are having trouble with the jump because I mistakenly uploaded a build with some beta features (in this case the cling system) but we uploaded a new build that should fix the problem

The game is really nice. I love the aesthetic and the mix 2D landscape/ 3D actors ! The musics and VFX are awesome, everything makes the game satisfyingly polished.
The gameplay is quick to understand and really innovative (i like the hat a lot !) and the ability to plant seeds is interesting.
However, i forgot A LOT to plant them, and this was a bit frustrating. (maybe a reminder could be the solution ?)
Speaking of frustration, from my humble point of view some jumps and timings are really tight and not permissive at all. Sometimes it's hard because the hat throwing is kinda clunky. (played on keyboard so it might be the reason)
Anyway, the game is GREAT and I had a good time.
Keep up the good works, and i hope that your game will be on sale sometime, because it really deserves it !
Hi Silenteius! We appreciate your words and the constructive feedback! We are aware of some limits of this demo: if we will continue development we will of course refine the checkpoint system and the difficulty curve, we also planned on adding a cling system, so if you come close enough to the edge after a jump the girl will automatically cling and she will pull herself up, increasing the margin of error allowed.
We share the same hope in seeing Out Of The Hat on sale sooner or later! Only time will tell 😎
This was a really neat experience. I liked the art style and overall trippy aesthetic. The green smoke eyes that grab you are spooky too.
BTW the fade in/out texture doesnt seem to work on different aspect ratios. I played this on a 16:10 monitor and the fade texture didnt stretch to fill the whole screen.

Thank you for the video David! yes you got it right! if you pay attention, when you are close to the shadow memories the game shift the mood: sad memory means harder challenges while happy memories will make your life a little bit easier
This game's really cool and a lot of fun. Some spots are pretty tough but also pretty satisfying when you finally get past them. I definitely want to play more of this! Thanks!

Thanks for the video! Yes, all the assets in the game are hand drawn except for the trees and the characters that are 3D with a custom shader.
Really cool style you've got going. The backgrounds have a strong Eyvind Earle vibe which is perfect for the fantasy setting.

Hi Tarcisousa! Glad you liked it! This is just a demo built to showcase the potential of the game to look for funding, so you will not find anything else after the smashing hand. You could try and find the 3 collectibles though. They should give you a hint of what's going on and potentially what is going to happen.
